What is it?

Blacktop Braggin' Rights is an annual fund raising competition to benefit The Menard County United Fund. It is sponsored by all of the local Menard County businesses and organizations listed to the left , and based around the competition between the Athens Warriors and the Porta Bluejays to find out who has the desire to grab the Menard County Blacktop Braggin' Rights for that year.

While the game competition will no doubt be tough, this event is about more than wins and losses on the football field.   In conjunction with all the great sponsors, all three county schools are teaming up to raise money for the Menard County United Fund .

During late August thru September, the Menard County United Fund will give area residents several opportunities to designate donations toward Athens, Greenview and PORTA High School for the off the field competition to see who can raise the most money on a per enrolled student basis for the United Fund. The funds raised during their Fall fundraising drive will be tallied up through the start of the Football game, with a traveling trophy presented to the winning fund-raising school at end of the football game, along with the game trophy for the winning team.

In addition to the fall fundraising drive, the United Fund will be selling T-shirts and holding a 50/50 raffle to assist in their fundraising efforts. All money raised from these events stays in Menard County to support area agencies and organizations.

Join us at the 3rd Annual Horseshoe/Washer/Bags Tournament Kickoff Event on Saturday, September 10th, 2011 at the Boar's Nest Bar and Grill in Athens. Check in is at 11:30 am, and we hope to begin competition at Noon. Live Music will be performing that afternoon and evening. Food and drink are available for sale, and there will be BBR t-shirts for sale as well as a 50/50 drawing. You can register at all locations of these three Menard County banks (Athens State Bank, National Bank of Petersburg, and Petefish, Skiles and Co. Bank), or at the Boar's Nest.

Where and when is it?

The Horseshoe,Washer, and Bags Tournament is held at the Boar's Nest Bar and Grill at Athens on Saturday, September 10, 2011. Registration starts at 11:30 am. Live music will be performing that afternoon, as well as BBR t-shirts and 50/50 tickets available for sale. A $5 donation is suggested for adults not entered in the tournament. The Blacktop Braggin' Rights VI game is held at Athens Athletic Field at Athens High School, on Friday, September 30th at 7:00 P.M.
